Soccer String Art

I know this isn't paper created but still something that I did make! This last school year, I taught an arts and craft club on Fridays in the school that I work. The principal wanted to do something different and fun with the kids on Friday afternoons. We had 7 clubs for the kids to pick from and they could change clubs at the beginning of each quarter.

We made several things over the course of the year. We did many paper crafts and we tried other crafts as well. I think this was my favorite. It's string art. I printed a picture of the soccer ball from the internet and then blew it up so that it would fit on my 12x12 plywood board. I painted the board. I marked the ball every 1/2" with a pen on the paper, then I put the soccer ball on the wood using tacks to hold it in six spots around the ball. I used another tack to poke a hole at each mark. I removed the paper and put a nail in each hole around and in the ball. I tied the white string onto one of the nails and just wound it around in the area until I was happy with how full the color was and then I moved onto the next area. Once all the white was done, I did the same with the black and added "lines" between the white and black areas to give it definition. I did double up on the "lines".

I am thinking about creating another one, I'm just not sure what I want to do!

Prom Program

You might remember that I made 180 Prom invitations for the high school that my daughter's attend. The school's tradition is to give every junior and senior, as well as the staff, an invitation to prom. They are put on the kids lockers so that when they come back from spring break the invites are hanging on their lockers. The juniors and their parents are in charge of all things prom. HERE'S the link to the invitation that I created with some help from another parent and 3 of the juniors.

At the prom, there are programs on each of the dining spots at the venue. This is the program that I made. I think I did 150 of these.

I had fun creating these and the invitations but it tends to be a huge undertaking and I'm very thankful that this is done and I won't have a junior again for 3 years!

Confirmation Gifts Part 2

Part 2 of those confirmation gifts!

I did explain in yesterday's post how I made these frames. I have enjoyed making them over the years. I think I have been giving these as gifts for about 10 years already.

Most of the kids enjoy them but a few months ago, I found one at the local Goodwill. I was pretty heart broken and started to contemplate if I was doing the right things or not. When I gave this years group their frames, I had so many tell me that they were looking forward to getting theirs and couldn't wait to see what I had made for them. Several parents told me that their kids went home and the first thing they was hang these pictures in the kids' rooms. I guess I am doing the right thing and will keep going with these as gifts for a while yet!

Confirmation Gifts Part 1

Sticking to the confirmation theme of the last couple of posts, these are the gifts that I create each year for the kids that are being confirmed. We had 17 confirmed in our church and then were invited to several friends' children's confirmations.

I made 21 of these framed gifts. Each frame was made with the child's Bible passage that they chose as their confirmation verse. I print the passages from the computer onto Whisper White paper and then cut them down around the passages. I picked one of the words from their passage and cut it from vinyl and adhered to the outside of the glass. The Designer Series Paper is retired and in my pile to be used up but that's a large pile! Need to keep creating!! The crosses are wooden craft crosses that I picked up at Hobby Lobby and painted black.

Tomorrow I will be posting the other 10 frames that I made this year.

Confirmation Thank Yous

My third daughter was confirmed this spring. You may remember seeing her invitations HERE. After the party, she had to write out thank you. Why is it so hard for young people to write thank yous out? I had to sit next to her to get them done. They did finally get done and in the mail.

So simple and pretty!
